Some states (notably Illinois and Alaska)  like to provide their delegates to the Republican and Democrat National Conventions with license plates for their automobiles to show that they are delegates, etc. to the national conventions.  Because the license plates are issued to a small number of people, they are relatively rare and some are quite expensive.
